"He who is standing should reach down to the fallen one"
Saadi Shirazi, 13th Century Poet
As a result of several decades of conflict and war, the very fabric of Afghan society was disrupted. Families were torn apart, people were wounded or maimed, many died, other disappeared or moved away, and widows were left to raise their children on their own.
Ever since opening her office in October 2014, the First lady has focused on the rebuilding of a healthy, strong society within which people feel responsible for each other and help the disadvantaged among them: orphans, widows, victims of war, people with disabilities, internally displaced people, returning refugees, victims of domestic abuse, drug addicts, and prisoners.
